How to become an aircraft maintenance engineer? Well, first of all you must have an interest on the aircraft itself because if you don’t like it or feel that there is nothing special about an aircraft then it will be more likely that you will not pass the exam or test to get the license. Practical knowledge is very essential as it will make it easier to answer the questions in the license exam to become an aircraft maintenance engineer.
There is a lot of aircraft maintenance engineering training school that offering course to become an aircraft maintenance engineer, in fact Malaysia Airlines as well as Air Asia does have their own training department to recruit new aircraft maintenance engineers.
Training normally took around 4 to 5 years, Malaysia Airlines for instance will provide an allowances to the trainees that join their training program however they will be bonded for few years once the trainees succeed his training program and established as licensed aircraft maintenance engineer.
Aircraft maintenance engineer can be divided into categories, it can be Line Aircraft Maintenance Engineer or Base Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, apart from that they furthermore can be divided into trades that they are rated which is either Airframe Maintenance Engineers, Engines Maintenance Engineer, Avionics, Electrical or Radio. Aircraft Maintenance Engineer can be multiple trades as well. Normally Airframe Engineer will hold Engine license. Electrical, Avionic and Radio Aircraft maintenance engineer normally has 3 rating with them.
To maintain an aircraft engine in its good and perfect working condition you have to follow these steps.
1. Firstly Start the engine and let it warm up
2. After you stop the engine, then remove the engine cowling fasteners by using the correct screwdriver (Phillips or flathead, depending on the engine you work on) if needed and remove the cowling from the engine.
3. Then remove the drain plug through screwdriver and drain the engine oil into oil bucket.
4. Replace the old oil filter with the new one using a wrench from your tool set.
5. Remove the lower spark plugs Remove the lower spark plugs clean it and then again install it.
6. Refill the oil and inspect the whole engine.
7. Restart the engine and check its parameters again from Step 1. Shut the engine off and inspect for any oil leaks.
In the last step reinstall engine cowling by using a screwdriver and complete all paperwork to return airplane to service. Without paperwork completion, all types of airplanes are not allowed to fly.
