Most people who work in design engineering must be skill in the use of CAD software and other engineering programs that designers use every day to see their visions come to life. The better someone in design engineering understands what a designer is trying to achieve, the better he or she can work to make it happen. This understanding comes through time, experience and training, but it is vital for design engineering to be as successful as it can be.

Although design engineering does not control how aesthetically pleasing something is, it does control how well it functions, which is often the most important element of the system. Without proper function in a building, for instance, people aren't going to fully enjoy the value of the design. Thus design engineering gives developers the tools they need to literally make their users feel certain emotions or enjoy certain aspects of a design, bringing the entire process to a whole new level.
